BACKGROUNG & EXPERIENCE
Profile / The Second Chance School of Agrinio is located in Agrinio, in western Greece. It was founded in 2003. It is a public school with a versatile innovative educational program that aims to combat the social exclusion of people who do not have the necessary qualifications and skills to meet the modern needs of the labor market. Through its program, people of 18 years or older, who have not completed the nine-year compulsory education, can obtain a junior high school diploma and smoothly integrate into social, economic, and professional life.
The Second Chance School of Agrinio aims at the overall development of its students, strengthening their cognitive background, active participation in society, and reconnection with the workplace.
The Greek Second Chance Schools (SCS) are members of the European Network of Second Chance Schools (www.e2c-europe.org ). The responsibility for the operation of SCSs in Greece belongs to the General Secretariat for Lifelong Learning (G.G.D.V.M.). (www.gsae.edu.gr)
Educational program / The training program covers three topics:
• Developing language, mathematics, and communication skills, with particular emphasis on foreign languages and informatics.
• Basic training and preparation for working life in partnership with local authorities.
• Developing skills regarding the personal interests of learners, such as sports, music, theater, etc.
The total duration of the program is 18 months (two 9-month sessions).
Student profile / Our school is attended by around 100 students whose age varies mainly between 18 – 65 years of age, with the largest percentage being between 30-50 years, while in recent years there has been an increase in older ages (60-70 years).
These are low-skilled adults who have not completed a secondary education program and who overwhelmingly belong to vulnerable social groups such as: Roma / Immigrants / Women (unemployed, single-parent families) / Unemployed men with low professional qualifications / People with learning difficulties that have driven them to drop out of school / Illiterate people / Retired/elderly people who experience intense loneliness / social exclusion / People with serious health problems (themselves or their close relatives)
The staff / The school is staffed by teachers belonging to the educational force of the Greek Ministry of Education. The members of the staff have undergone rigorous training in Adult Education, carry significant experience teaching adults, and maintain a high degree of educational expertise through regular in-service training.
The staff capacity amounts to about 15 teachers of various teaching specialties: ICT, Greek language, English language, Sociology, Science, Environmental Education, Mathematics, Arts.
The school is also staffed by a Sociology counselor and a Career Orientation Counselor.

Πρόγραμμα Grundtvig
Η Εκπαιδευτική Σύμπραξη Grundtvig αποτελεί ένα πλαίσιο δραστηριοτήτων πρακτικής συνεργασίας μεταξύ φορέων της εκπαίδευσης ενηλίκων με την ευρύτερη έννοια – τυπική, μη τυπική ή άτυπη. Σε σύγκριση με τα πολυμερή σχέδια συνεργασίας Grundtvig μεγαλύτερης κλίμακας, τα οποία προσανατολίζονται περισσότερο στο “προϊόν” ή το αποτέλεσμα, οι συμπράξεις επικεντρώνονται περισσότερο στη διαδικασία και έχουν ως σκοπό να προωθήσουν τη συμμετοχή μικρότερων φορέων που επιθυμούν να συμπεριλάβουν την ευρωπαϊκή συνεργασία στις εκπαιδευτικές τους δραστηριότητες.
Σε μια Εκπαιδευτική Σύμπραξη Grundtvig, εκπαιδευτές και εκπαιδευόμενοι από τουλάχιστον τρεις συμμετέχουσες χώρες εργάζονται από κοινού πάνω σε ένα ή περισσότερα θέματα κοινού ενδιαφέροντος με τους συνεργαζόμενους φορείς. Αυτή η ανταλλαγή εμπειριών, πρακτικών και μεθόδων συμβάλλει στην ενίσχυση της ευαισθητοποίησης της ποικιλόμορφης ευρωπαϊκής πολιτιστικής, κοινωνικής και οικονομικής πραγματικότητας και στην καλύτερη κατανόηση περιοχών κοινού ενδιαφέροντος στο χώρο της εκπαίδευσης ενηλίκων.
